| The descending colon is the section of the colon on the left side of the abdomen. It is approximately 12 to 18 in. in length, and is located between the transverse and the sigmoid colon. When using a colon tube it is difficult to insert the colon tube past the turn at the transverse colon. |

enemas or laxatives if abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting are present unless directed by

Rectal bleeding or failure to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative or enema may
indicate a serious condition.
